"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." - Calvin Coolidge

Ken's writing - April 10th report

Whew. My experiment with no time or page goals for Thurs to Sun (today) went well. I wanted to have 6 to 8 pages for the ICM and ended up with 6 brand spanking new pages plus a revision of 2 pages I already had for Chapter 2.  Muchly pleased. If I had to estimate the time I put in I'd go for 10 hours including revisions I made to the first draft efforts. What I found most pleasant, was my ability to silence my perfectionist side and Just Write my first draft without getting too worried about my language. I also had a wonderful moment where I was able to use the group's discussion over the non-word barterndress within my story as Carl and the alleged bartendress had a similar argument. I'm going to let my next "assigned hours" wait until next Thurs to Sun. I have a strong belief that I will make efforts between now and then, but, I will allow them to fall into the category of "gravy," and allow myself to decompress a bit.  I have few hundred words past what I submitted today of Chapter 2, so my next sit down will be a continuation, not another ground up operation, as was the week past.
